Elder Care 23-24 Program Report
Recently, five students from North Central Academy successfully completed the Elder Care Certificate program, earning 4 Industry Recognized Credentials. The program was sponsored through grant funding from LeadingAgeⓇ in partnership with Good Shepherd Home and Autumnwood Care Center. Students who earned the certification demonstrated proficiency in the following areas:
Identify basic characteristics and implications of aging.
Respond appropriately to ethical dilemmas.
Describe and practice the “caring presence” communication approach.
Define critical thinking and describe its benefits to working with older adults.
Describe the skills necessary for excellent customer service.
Those same students earned their certificate of completion in Dean Vaughn Medical Terminology. Completing the course shows they have
developed basic vocabulary of 250 medical terms and abbreviations
identified major body structure and functions that reinforce knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology
correctly constructed singular and plural forms of terms
In addition to earning the two certificates, they completed a total of 291 internship hours for hand-on demonstration of their skills and knowledge.
Congratulation to Anez Terell, Ari Espinosa-Snowden, Autumn Taylor, Haley Johnson and Keira Krause for their hard work and dedication to the program.

The day recognizes the work of secretaries, administrative assistants, receptionists, and other administrative support professionals. Central to any business, these professionals keep an office organized and efficient.

Andy (Jason) Krauss successfully passed his Rise Up Customer Service and Sales exam today, earning another 6 industry recognized credentials.

Sentinel’s New Student Orientation in on Wednesday, May 1st. The orientation is for students who have been accepted into a program. If a student is on a waitlist, they do not attend.
On this night there are 3 sessions. Please refer to the table for which programs are to report to which session.
Every accepted student has received a mailing informing them of their orientation time.
If students are not able to attend New Student Orientation, they will need to make contact with the instructor whose information was in their letter.

North Central Academy made a special appearance in the Advertiser Tribune featuring the Playhouse Project!
Haley Johnson and Autumn Taylor began their internships at Good Shepherd Home in Fostoria. Both students recently completed requirements for the LeadingAge Ohio Elder Care program through North Central Academy. LeadingAge Ohio is a nonprofit trade association that represents approximately 400 long-term care organizations and hospices, as well as those providing ancillary health care and housing services, in more than 150 Ohio towns and cities. Completion of the Elder Care course provides students with four industry recognized credentials.

On April 17th, NCA students attended the annual Job Fair at Columbian High School. Sponsored by Seneca Regional Chamber of Commerce and hosted by Tiffin City Schools, the Job Fair introduced students to opportunities for seasonal, part time, and full time employment with area businesses and industries. Military representatives and education facilities were also present to speak with students about post-grad opportunities.
